We’re heading into the rainy season and please be more rain to replenish our soil! If you’re a homeowner and you’re responsible for your own roof (some condo owners don’t have to worry about this), this is the blog for you!

Here in central California, we love the rain, we love the rich sun and soil that can turn little seeds into beautiful flowers, bushes, and trees. But the rain and the sun also wear out our roofs. Here are some tips for you to best prepare for the rainy winter. You can do this yourself (please be safe and have a second person nearby at all times) or hire a roofer or handy person.

  1. Sweep or blow debris off your roof.
  2. Clean the gutters. Have trash bags ready.
  3. Check gutters and downspouts are securely attached. It gets windy sometimes and you don’t want any gutter or downspout flying off, or worse, break your windows.
  4. Trim any plants that are almost touching the exterior of your house including any bushes against the walls and tree branches close to your roof or walls.
  5. Consider spraying outside around the house for insects as some are attracted to the warm house.
  6. Check and adjust your sprinkler system as needed so you save on water bill when there’s free water.
  7. Dust off any dirt and spider webs if any had accumulated outside before the first rain. Prepare for the holiday parties and show off your house to the guests!
  8. After the first rain of the season, check meticulously for any signs for leaks. Water damage can be expensive to repair but it won’t be if you fix it right away.
  9. If you’re into gardening, it’s time to prepare for winter garden! Time to remove the tomatoes and plant the cabbages!

Well well I hope you find this useful and feel very good about yourself for taking good care of your home. I do!
